CHECKLIST FOR SETUP/PLAY PROBLEMS
----------------------------------
Before you assume there is something wrong with the game(s) or you
cannot get them to run on your system please check the following.
If you answer yes to any of them you are doing something wrong.
1. GodFather of Crime and Rise To Power:
_____ - You forgot to make sure SHARE is loaded.
_____ - You loaded DOS SHARE into high memory. If so, it will NOT
work correctly. Load into normal memory instead.
_____ - You forgot to run the DDSETUP.EXE program to configure the
GOC.CTL or RTP.CTL file first.
_____ - You forgot to run the SETUP.EXE after configuring the GOC.CTL
or RTP.CTL. Remember to "SAVE" your settings to generate
the required data files.
_____ - Your CTL file is not called GOC.CTL or RTP.CTL as required
by the appropriate game.
_____ - The start up batch routine does not get the drop file
INTO the game directory OR tell the game where the drop
file can be found. See the /P parameter in Sysop.Doc
for further information.
_____ - You are running a fossil but forgot to configure the
appropriate CTL file to show that you are using a fossil
and at what speed you have locked the port.
----- - You have not tried to change to a different drop file format
to see if that might be the problem.
----- - You do NOT have ANSI.SYS installed.
----- - You do NOT have ALL the game files in the same directory?
_____ - You are not running the maint.exe program once daily from
the same directory as the game and all it's data files is
in.
_____ - You forgot to delete the NKEY.DAT file when you got your
registered key BEFORE running the game in local mode to
enter the new key code?
_____ - You get error messages that say the game was unable to
open a file? Check the game directory and ensure that
the required game DAT files have been created. If not
you have NOT run SETUP.EXE correctly. To fix just
run SETUP.EXE again manually following the instructions
in the SYSOP.DOC file.
2. Death By Trivia, BioGuide, CampTown Races, Escape, Task Force
Broadside, Ship of the Line, Grunt Fest, Adventure Door Game
Toolkit and Way Freight:
_____ - You forgot to make sure SHARE is loaded.
_____ - You loaded DOS SHARE into high memory. If so, it will NOT
work correctly. Load into normal memory instead.
_____ - Your CTL file is not called *.CTL.
(Substitute your game name for the "*" in *.ctl)
_____ - You forgot to configure the *.CTL file first.
(Substitute your game name for the "*" in *.ctl)
_____ - The start up batch routine does not get the drop file
INTO the game directory OR tell the game where the drop
file can be found. See the /P parameter in Sysop.Doc
for further information.
_____ - You attempted to alter the 3rd line of the key.dat file
without obtaining the correct key code from me directly.
_____ - You are running a fossil but forgot to configure the
CTL file to show that you are using a fossil and at what
speed you have locked the port.
----- - You have not tried to change to a different drop file format
to see if that might be the problem.
----- - You do NOT have ANSI.SYS installed.
----- - You do NOT have ALL the game files in the same directory?
_____ - You forgot to set up the MAINT.EXE program to run as a
daily event, if MAINT.EXE was included with the program
archive (Check the sysop.doc to see if your program has
a daily maintenance requirement). If included with the
program it MUST be run from the same directory as the
game is in.
3. OK, I have not done anything wrong based on the above. What do I
do now? If it is a game problem fill out the bugrpt.frm completely
and then package it up with any error logs, your CTL file and the
batch routine which runs the game, and transmit it to me via fido
(1:391/3010) or log onto my BBS and upload it to me. Use the first 8
letters (or less) to name the package. For example DALTON.ZIP would be
the name of my compressed package containing the BUGRPT.FRM and other
required files which I might submit. Please note that I will NOT
respond to ANY inquiries or bug reports unless I get these things!
